Paonia Police Department Sergeant Neil Ferguson reported to the town board of trustees that the Oct. 22 "Drug Take-Back Day" was a big success. The event allows citizens to bring in unused and unwanted prescription medications for disposal with no questions asked. A total of 89 state and local law enforcement agency offices hosted 144 take-back events, collecting 17,951 pounds of drugs. To put that in perspective, said Ferguson, that represents drugs that won't be sold on the black market or flushed down drains and into water systems.
