Paonia's boys basketball team was expected to win last Friday in Rangely. A 66-36 decision was as lopsided as it sounds with everyone on Coach Chase Roeber's roster seeing action.
The Eagles jumped to an early lead and was leading 14-4 after one quarter of play.
Rangely found some mojo in the second frame and outscored the Eagles 21-16 but trailed 30-25 at halftime.
It was all Paonia in the second half as the Eagles hammered the Panthers with 23 points in the third quarter while their defense limited Rangely to just four points.
Paonia held its edge on offense and added six more points to its advantage to finish with a 66-36 win.
Patrick Scoggins netted 10 points to lead Rangely's offensive efforts.
Paonia will host either Rangely or Soroco on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a shot at a berth in this weekend's District 5 tournament finals in De Beque.
