The basketball teams at Paonia High School enter the Christmas break ranked among the top 10 teams in the state and are posting some big numbers.
The Paonia boys started the season with six straight wins before falling at Grand Valley. The Eagles (6-1) had moved to No. 9 in 2A in a recent CHSAA online poll before that loss.
The Eagles girls slipped in their fourth game of the year, losing in double overtime at Olathe on Dec. 8. The loss dropped Paonia (6-1) from second to No. 4 in 2A.
Both Paonia basketball teams next hit the hardwood on Jan. 9 at Plateau Valley.
