The 45th annual Edge of the Cedars Art Exhibit opens Thursday, June 8, at Cedaredge Middle School.

This year organizers say there is an exceptionally large number of artists (93) exhibiting with a lot of professionals on display whose works will be of special interest to patrons.

The Edge of the Cedars Art Exhibit is hosted by the members of the local Zeta Omicron Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority (ESA) and is a fundraiser for local scholarships.

The judge for this year's exhibit is Cynthia Duff, a Colorado native who was raised to appreciate nature, music, and the arts. She studied and worked in the commercial arts, designating marketing packages for clients.

Her passion for painting grew while raising her children in Nebraska where the sand hill cranes stop during their migration to the north. She has been a featured artist at the Bosque Del Apache Crane Festival in Socorro, N.M., and at the Surface Creek Valley Crane Festival in Colorado.

Cynthia now works in public and private collections around the world. Her current works are shown in galleries in New York, Iowa, Nebraska, Breckenridge, Vail, St. George, Utah, and in Grand Junction and Palisade.

The categories are oil/acrylic, watercolor, graphics, pastels, mixed media, sculpture, photography, digitally enhanced photography, pottery, stained glass and open.

The reception is Wednesday, June 7, beginning at 7 p.m. Awards will be presented at that time.

Scholarship winners will be honored at the reception and their artwork will be highlighted at the show. Proceeds from entry fees and commissions from sales go toward these scholarships. The awards selected by the judge are Best of Show and Best in each of the four expertise levels, -- professional, advanced, amateur and student. The exhibit is supported with sponsorship cash awards donated by many local businesses and individuals.

The exhibit will be open for viewing and purchases June 8-10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"ESA is good friends, good works, and good times ... we create activities and support causes that let us surround ourselves with welcoming, positive people who enjoy making a difference and having fun together," states the ESA website.
