Edward L. Gallegos of Olathe died July 13, 2017, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. He was 73.
Visitation and viewing were held July 17 and memorial services were held July 18 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel with Deacon Price Hatcher officiating.
Eduardo "Edward" Leroy Gallegos was born Oct. 6, 1943, to Amarante and Felicita (Romero) Gallegos in Antonito. He spent his childhood in Antonito and San Luis and graduated from Centennial High School in San Luis.
Mr. Gallegos attended Adams State University in Alamosa and received a master's degree.
He married Victoria J. Duran on Sept. 14, 1963, in San Luis.
Mr. Gallegos served in the Army National Guard for many years. He was a Catholic by faith and a former member of the Alamosa Elks Lodge. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and using his tractor to work on his property.
He retired from the State of Colorado as a supervisor for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation in Alamosa. After he retired, he moved with Victoria to Delta in 1999. They settled on their farm in Olathe in 2002.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Victoria; his son, Ronald (Beth) Gallegos of New Braunfels, Texas; a daughter, Janelle Gallegos of Olathe; four granddaughters, Brittany Gallegos of New Braunfels, Texas, and Ashley, Amberly and Brandee of Olathe; four great-granddaughters, Aleyna and Aubriana of New Braunfels, Texas, and Elle and Adi of Olathe; two brothers, Amarante (Carmen) Gallegos of Parker and Joseph Gallegos of Pueblo; three sisters, Georgiana Candelaria of Antonito, Mercy (Joe) Rodriquez of Fort Garland and Merline Brinson of Pueblo; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Gene Gallegos.
Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory handled the arrangements.
