In the Feb. 14 edition of the Delta County Independent we saw a paid announcement by Bill Brunner criticizing Dave Bradford and a committee of Paonia citizens for the upgrading of the miners memorial statue and entrance to the Paonia Park. We heard a few weeks ago from Mr. Bruner's wife and now we hear from Mr. Bruner. I sincerely hope as you have read her comments and also her husband's that you can really see how much both of them DO NOT care about Paonia.
At the town trustee meeting the committee on upgrading the memorial had a presentation along with pictures and a map as to what the completion of the memorial would look like. Also there was a presentation by John Poulos (born and raised in Paonia).
I am excited to see the entrance to the park preserved. The memorial means a lot to many of us who grew up in this town and remember what the statue reminds us of. Several gave their lives while mining, many of whom spent their whole lives underground to provide a living for their families. We need to preserve this part of our park for generations to come. I have attended many council meetings. I have seen the trustees work together and I have seen one person disagree and disrupt meetings constantly. Please be careful as you vote this year because some who have been on the council before and did nothing but criticize and disturb the meetings do not belong as a trustee.
I would like to thank Dave Bradford, John Poulos and all the committee for the work they are doing to preserve this memorial. The Paonia Board of Trustees as it stands now and our mayor work together completely for the good of Paonia. I know, I attend these meetings because I love my hometown.
