The inaugural Elk Run 5k in Crested Butte, founded by Olympic medalist Emma Coburn, a 2008 graduate of Crested Butte Community School, will be held Sept. 30. Earlier this month she won gold in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics at the London Olympic Stadium.
The race is for runners of all abilities and encourages health and fitness. Entry is $35 prior to Aug. 30, and $40 until race day, with proceeds going to Living Journeys, a local charity. An after-race thank-you dinner is $120, and an all-included package is available for $140.
