For the third year in a row, a Delta student has placed first in the state drug awareness poster contest sponsored by Delta Elks Lodge #1235.
Leeland Ball, a fifth grader at Lincoln Elementary School, won a 10-inch tablet from the Colorado Elks Association.
The second place winner was also from Delta. Roxsy Huerta is a fifth grader at Garnet Mesa Elementary School. She also received a 10-inch tablet with removable keyboard. Third place went to a student from a Lakewood school.
From a young age, the Elks' drug awareness program asks kids to think about what it means to be drug free. Through the program's annual essay and poster contests, kids can express their feelings on rejecting peer pressure. To ensure a bright future for our country, it is essential that our children be raised in a drug-free environment.
The Delta Elks Lodge is committed to expanding the drug awareness program to Cedaredge Elementary School, as well as to middle school students, who are required to submit an essay. High school students are invited to compete in a video contest.
