Emblem Club members welcome state president

The regular meeting of Delta Emblem Club #462 was held at the Delta Elks Lodge Monday, Oct. 24.

A potluck dinner was served at 5 p.m. in honor of Colorado State Association president Jan Gardner from Cortez Emblem Club #261.

Also honored were three guests from Hotchkiss Emblem Club #306, Karen Martin, Donna Cochran and Gladys Carpenter.

The meeting was opened according to ritual by club president Diane Martinez. Roll call showed all officers present. Five past presidents were in attendance. Financial secretary Ilene Dreier and treasurer Barbara Pierce gave their reports. They will be filed pending audit.

Corresponding secretary Mary Jo Chaffee read the correspondence and bills. They were taken up in the proper order of business. Committee reports were given as called. Drug awareness chairpersons Garrett Abeyta and Chandra Martinez reported posters from Delta Middle School had been graded. Prizes will be given. Literacy chairman Mary Jo Chaffee reported her activities with the public library. She will have more information later.

Recess was called and the scholarship march was conducted. Members celebrated the birthday of Helen Wurm.

Under new business, state president Jan Gardner was asked to address the assembly. She gave some highlights of her trip to Supreme Convention, which was held in Arlington, Va. She announced her state project as donations to an Alzheimer's organization. She presented club president Diane with a special piggy bank for collections from club members. Discussion was held concerning the choice of a date and place for our annual Christmas party. Dec. 5 was chosen as the date. The place will be decided later. Several requests for monetary assistance were read. After discussion, they were approved.

The meeting was closed according to ritual at 7:15 p.m.
