English language teacher receives award at state conference | Lincoln Elementary,

Mindy Becker

On Nov. 4, Mindy Becker of Lincoln Elementary in Delta was recognized as the winner of the Virginia French Allen Award at the annual Colorado Teachers of English as a Second Language conference in Aurora.

Virginia French Allen is a well-known English language teacher who excelled in reaching students who are learning English as their second language; this award is named in her honor.

Becker, as a recipient of this award, personifies the same excellence, high expectations and love of her students as exemplified by Allen. Becker took over the EL program after the retirement of Ruth Thompson, an amazing teacher who had served the Delta English language learner community for many years.

Becker was an excellent classroom teacher previous to this assignment and she took her skills of organization, classroom management, high expectations and most importantly, her love of her students to this new experience. She has been a sponge, seeking training and opportunities to learn from the beginning and has done a major outreach to her families and children with whom she works. Becker exemplifies all that is excellent in the teaching profession and Delta County is very honored to have her as part of the staff of Lincoln Elementary as well as the EL teachers in the district.
