Esther Raff

Esther Allene Raff died Dec. 16, 2017, at her home in Hotchkiss. She was 90.

Esther Allene Westlund was born in La Junta Jan. 25, 1927, to Alban and Allene (Jones) Westlund. She was delivered by her grandfather, Dr. Thomas Jefferson Jones. The family lived in La Junta and Saguache, then moved to Grand Junction where she graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1944.

On June 20, 1944, she married Joseph "Joe" Raff in Grand Junction. They farmed and ranched in the Grand Junction-Fruita area, raising Polled Hereford cattle before moving to Hotchkiss in 1981. He preceded her in death in 1990.

She enjoyed spending time with family.

Mrs. Raff is survived by her children, Joseph (Kathy) Raff Jr. of Grand Junction, Harold (Karen) Raff of Fruita, Esther (Larry) Peebles of Hotchkiss and Mary Lynn (Bill) Hensley of Montrose; and grandchildren, Joe Raff, Andy Raff, Karl Raff, Danny Raff, Renee Raff-Moore, Gary Peebles, Dinah Peebles, Rex Peebles, Katie Peebles-Denny and Krystal Hensley of Montrose; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Joe" Raff; her brother, Jack; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Orchard Mesa Cemetery in Grand Junction.
