Hotchkiss will host the first ever Farm to Fiddle Festival Aug. 12-13 and organizers are putting the finishing touches on the gala community event.
Co-directors Lynda Cannon and Marcy Moore, fellow graduates of Hotchkiss High School, came up with the idea of the festival to help promote the town.
The mission of the Farm to Fiddle Festival is to bring a sense of community to the area, and celebrate the people, the agriculture and the arts.
"We wanted to do something to bring positivity and a renewed sense of community for Hotchkiss, and to promote the area for people and businesses who are moving in," Cannon said at the Hotchkiss Town Council meeting last Thursday. "Everybody's just pulling together. We want the community to grow and survive and become tighter."
The event piggybacks with the end of the Delta County Fair. The streets of Hotchkiss will be filled with farmers, artists and musicians gathered to celebrate people, agriculture and the arts in the North Fork Valley.
Interested sponsors can get information on Farmtofiddle.com and there is also a Farm to Fiddle Facebook page. A promotional video is on YouTube. Also look for a Farm to Fiddle magazine featuring a schedule and complete information to be distributed throughout Delta County next week.
Two well-known musicians will play Farm to Fiddle. Friday night will feature Miguel Dakota, who performed on America's Got Talent. Then on Saturday night Crawford's Jeneve Rose Mitchell, fresh off her appearance on American Idol, will delight festival followers.
"We're always looking for volunteers and sponsors," Cannon said. "Individual sponsorships are welcome."
Other events include a juried art show and a dance at the Elks Lodge.
