Felipe Armendarez

Felipe Armendarez died June 1, 2017. He was 80.

He was born in Delta to David and Guadalupe Armendariz on Aug. 24, 1936. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1954. He went on to earn top security clearance and was assigned additional duties as presidential support at Andrews Airforce Base in Washington, D.C. He served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, earning an honorable discharge and three medals of commendation. Afterwards, he worked as a deputy for the Mesa County Sheriff's Office in Grand Junction. Once he fully retired and moved to Florida, he earned an associate degree in business.

On May 3, 1956, he married Julia, and they had four children.

He enjoyed spending time with family, working part-time, feeding wild birds, gardening and football.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Julia of Pensacola; his children, Phillip, John, Lisa and Judy; siblings, Margie, Erma, Victor, Manuel, Angelo and Virginia; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Steve and Gig Armendariz; and one sister, Minnie Abeyta.
