Larry Reeder (left) and Ben Martinez retired from the Delta Volunteer Fire Department after 20 years of service. At their retirement party, Emily Martinez, Ben's daughter, read a touching letter she had written. In part, it reads, "In 1996 you made a huge decision to join the Delta Volunteer Fire Department. You made an oath to protect and serve others over yourself. You left during many family dinners, holidays, birthdays, and crazy times at night to go put out a fire, cut somebody out of a car, get in a boat to help somebody out of the freezing river water, clean up little gas leaks, and sometimes get cats out of couches. Not only did you volunteer to do that, but you volunteered to collect money for the MDA children in need every Labor Day, you volunteered to collect money for the fireworks for the 4th of July, then go spend that whole holiday setting them up. Thank you, Dad, for being the world's most amazing hero. I'm so lucky to have a dad like you. Happy retirement!"
