Former Delta County resident David "Fred" Fernandez died after a short battle with cancer Oct. 3, 2015, at his home in Grand Junction. He was 67.
He was an honorably discharged Vietnam veteran.
Mr. Fernandez worked as a carpenter. He enjoyed football and classic cars.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Fernandez; five children, Larissa (Steve) Bloom, Heather (Jamie) Hladik, David (Betsy) Fred Fernandez III, Angelina (Chris) Jensen and Elisabeth Fernandez; nine grandchildren, Kelsey Gleason, J.C. Christen, Dakota Cziplus, Cherokee Nicholson, Ashley, Amanda and Gabriel Fernandez, Damon and Zoey Jensen; great-grandson, Drake Gleason; and sister, Anne (Paul) Hanus.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at Texas Roadhouse in Grand Junction. Dinner will be Dutch treat.
At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
