The Town of Cedaredge has received a confirmation from the state grant-making agency DOLA of a cash award for helping to pay for replacement of the Jay Avenue bridge, it has been announced.

The one-lane bridge has been at the top of the town's to-do list of projects for many years. With some of the stout timbers supporting the pavement across Surface Creek showing signs of worrisome cracking, now was considered the time for replacement.

The estimated cost has escalated over the years to almost double its original price. The grant award confirmation received by the town for its DOLA request is for $380,000 of the estimated $562,338 total cost.

The bridge is to be replaced with a pre-fabricated concrete box culvert structure, according to town officials.

The town board is scheduled to authorize acceptance of the DOLA grant at its April 21 meeting. No construction start date has been announced.

• In a matter discussed during the trustees' April 14 work session, town staff announced that the new sewer treatment plant is online and treating the town's wastewater. Effluent discharge into Surface Creek will commence once a discharge permit from the state is approved, which is expected to occur around May 1.
