Chester "Gene" Eugene Markley of Olathe died Feb. 15, 2018. He was 80.
He was born May 18, 1937, to Roy and Dorothy (McCarty) Markley in Hotchkiss. He spent his childhood in the Pea Green area and graduated from Olathe High School in 1956.
On Aug. 12, 1960, he married Barbara in Delta.
Mr. Markley served in the U.S. Army and was active in the Olathe community as part of the Olathe Fire Department and OTA Baseball. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #1053.
He enjoyed being in the mountains, fishing, hunting, golfing and bowling.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara of Olathe; sons, Brad (Lisa) Markley of Olathe, Greg Markley of Montrose, and Todd (Shannon) Markley of Cedaredge; sister, Teri (Mike) Williams of Litchfield Park, Ariz.; brother, Lee (Florence) Markley of Olathe; seven grandchildren, Mason (Naomi) Markley, Paige (Seth) Palmer, Dessa Markley, Dylan Markley, Bryce Markley, Dante Markley and Drew Markley; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. at the Montrose Christian Church in Montrose. Burial will follow at Olathe Cemetery.
