Gerald D. Boyd died Sept. 23, 2016, at his home in Olathe. He was 77.
He was born in Delta March 10, 1939, to Cecil and Flora Boyd. He attended school in Delta.
On Aug. 9, 1957, he married Shirley Byers.
He farmed for many years and drove over five million miles without an accident in the 18-wheeler he operated with his wife. They retired in 2000.
Mr. Boyd enjoyed animals, photography, cast iron cooking and entertaining with his unique cowboy poetry. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the First Born.
He is survived by his children, Merna and Doug Felhmann of Montrose, Corky and Joyce Boyd of Vici, Okla., Nova and Ed Shreeves of Montrose and Lonny Boyd of Gunnison; granddaughters, Mandy and Makie Shreeves, Liz and Cillia Boyd; brother, Raymond (Berta) Boyd of Pleasant View; sisters, Twila Gourley of Delta and LaVelle (Larry) Burson of Brighton; brothers-in-law, Chuck (Violet) Byers of Delta, Keith (Tina) Byers of Olathe, Carrol Howard and Naida Byers of Olathe; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; and three brothers-in-law, Larry Gourley, Ray Howard and Ron Byers.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Pea Green Cemetery.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
