The City of Delta is applying for a Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant to fund a master plan for the city's parks, trails and open space. If a $75,000 planning grant is awarded, it will be matched by $50,000 from the city's Conservation Trust Fund.
The plan will help establish priorities for the 2018 budget and is seen as an essential element for pursuing grant funds for future projects.
In a recent survey, 82 percent of the city's residents said access to city trails is good or excellent, and 87 percent rated the variety of city parks as good or excellent.
Specific comments addressed the desire for playgrounds suited to the needs of older kids, as opposed to tiny tots. Three comments cited the need for Confluence Trail improvements, particularly on the south end, and for better weed control along the trail.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
