Good neighbors: The icing on the cake

By Bill Sutton

Dear Editor:

Without getting too mushy, I really do want to thank a special neighbor for his willingness to immediately help us with a very sad situation. We lost Freckles, our granddaughter's horse today, and it was unexpected. Dr. Dorr, our horse vet, came at Sallie's request to end the life of a very wonderful kid's pet, a horse with a background of barrel racing and other competition. He was our granddaughter's best friend for the last few years of his life. He would jump with her, just take her on a nice ride, do some barrel racing, and allow her to lie full-length on his back for hours. Always bareback, always gentle.

A dear neighbor with a backhoe has been our gravedigger for other horses and has always been there to help us. This time, he was out of town and it was panic time until the name of another neighbor who might have a backhoe came up. A call and his quick response to come and do the job was more than appreciated. There is no way to adequately thank him, and to thank the other one, for what they have done for us. No asked questions, no comments, nothing, just pure kindness. Living in Delta is so much better than living in other places. Having good neighbors is the icing on the cake of a beautiful area. Some don't like it here, but they really don't understand how fortunate we are to live here.

I won't use the names of these special neighbors out of respect for their privacy, but they know who they are. A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to both of them from Sallie and me.
