The lakes and streams on Grand Mesa are thawed and ready for fishing. As for campgrounds, according to a spokesperson for Recreation Resource Management of America which operates the campgrounds on Grand Mesa, the following locations are to be open as of June 1: Jumbo and Mesa Lakes; Island Lake and nearby day-use; Ward Lake; Big Creek; Weir-Johnson; and Cobbett Lake may be open by June 1 but there is no potable water available

As for other campgrounds, Cottonwood Lakes are open for fishing but access is challenging and the campground is not yet open. Cottonwood, Crag Crest, Little Bear, and Spruce Grove campgrounds remain closed due to deep snow which continues to linger in these heavily treed facilities. At the earliest, these snowbound campgrounds might open by June 10 or as much as a week later.
