The perfect weather on AppleFest Saturday was all the high-octane fuel that auto enthusiasts needed for driving 123 registered entries to the pleasant confines of the Pioneer Town Arboretum for this year's Pioneer Town Car Show.

Besides providing visitors with lots of beautiful classics and other objects of automotive admiration, there were a few examples of true automotive genius parked among the maple trees on the Chapel of the Cross grounds.

Plenty of good food kept visitors fueled up, too, all of it provided by ladies of the Cedar Mesa Community Club. The dedicated volunteers of Pioneer Town had special events for visitors who took the museum's guided tours.

But the car show was was the big attraction. Trophies were awarded to the following entrants:

People's Choice went to Rod Downey of Montrose for his entry of an incredible original build based on a 1983 Peterbilt.

Best Sports Car went to M and M Head of Delta for a 1926 Mercedes.

Best Pickup was a custom '56 F-100.

Best Rod went to Vernon Pace of Grand Junction for his build of a '39 Chevy.

Best Classic came from Rifle, a '57 Ford Fairlane Skyline owned by Cecil and Betty Waldron.

Best Antique was a local favorite that has been enjoyed by many car show visitors: the beautifully restored and detailed '26 Cadillac owned by Keith and Gayle Butler of Cedaredge.

Awards were presented by Chuck Harrington and Sandy Carlson.
