Harvest festival pie contest a big success

Folks around here must sure love pie. Slices of homemade pecan, fruit, squash, streusel-topped, gluten-free and other pies sold last Friday during the I Love Pie sale and Harvest Pie Contest at the Mountain Harvest Festival raised just over $800 for the Lambert Junior Grange and the Hotchkiss High School/Paonia High School Speech Club, according to organizer Cassandra Shenk.

The Best Squash Pie category was won by Christine Frank, Best Fruit Pie winner was Christy Mendelson for her peach-blueberry pie, and Best Cream Pie went to Brenda Jenses for her s'more pie.

Judges included Don Foster of Hotchkiss, Jessica (no last name provided), Tara Budinger, Jim Richardson, Brenda Jensen and Mark Ramsey from Nelle's Cafe.
