Helen Garcia died Oct. 3, 2016, in Eckert. She was 93.
Graveside services were held Oct. 7 at the Mesa View Cemetery.
Mary Helen Mable Vigil was born in Wheatland, Wyo., Dec. 28, 1922, to Cora and Alfonso Vigil.
She married Jose "Joe" Cordillo Garcia on Dec. 4, 1943, in Blanca.
She worked many years in the agricultural fields in the San Luis Valley and after moving to Delta, she worked as a nurse's aide in the nursery at Delta County Memorial Hospital.
She was known as an excellent cook and canner, expert gardener, avid fisherwoman and camper, and she enjoyed exploring new places.
She is survived by her sisters, Martha Jaramillo and Ruth (Gilbert) Madrid of Albuquerque, N.M.; one brother, Dan (Dorothy) Vigil of Morgan Hill, Calif.; daughters, Mae (Cairol) Parker of Santa Fe, N.M., Louella (Denny) Wilson of Cottonwood, Ariz., Diana (Larry) Chacon of Eckert, Becky (Bob) Marah of Cedaredge, Phoebe (Joe) Burns of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Marlene (Joey) Chavez of Grand Junction; a son, Larry (Wendy) Garcia of Grand Junction; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jose Garcia, on Sept. 4, 2004.
