Helen M. Garcia died Oct. 3, 2016, in Eckert.
Mary Helen Mable Vigil was born in Wheatland, Wyo., Dec. 28, 1922, to Alfonso and Cora Vigil.
She married Jose "Joe" Cordillo Garcia Dec. 4, 1943, in Blanca. They were married for 61 years before his death on Sept. 4, 2004.
Mrs. Garcia worked in the agricultural fields in the San Luis Valley. After they moved to Delta, she worked as a nurse's aide in the nursery at Delta County Memorial Hospital.
She was known as an excellent gardener, an avid fisherwoman and camper, and an adventurer always willing to explore new places.
She is survived by her sisters, Martha Jaramillo and Ruth (Gilbert) Madrid of Albuquerque, N.M.; her brother, Dan (Dorothy) Vigil of Morgan Hill, Calif.; her daughters, Mae (Cairol) Parker of Santa Fe, N.M., Louella (Denny) Wilson of Cottonwood, Ariz., Diana (Larry) Chacon of Eckert, Becky (Bob) Marah of Cedaredge, Phoebe (Joe) Burns of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Marlene (Joey) Chavez of Grand Junction; a son, Larry (Wendy) Garcia of Grand Junction; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 7 at Mesa View Cemetery.

At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
