Helen Wakefield of Crawford died at HopeWest Care Center in Grand Junction Dec. 24, 2016. She was 74.
She was born in Lemars, Iowa, Feb. 4, 1942, to Harm and Leona Lubben.
She grew up in Lincoln, Neb., before moving to Denver. She graduated from West High School in Denver. In 1963 she married John Wakefield.
A homemaker, she was known for making wedding cakes. She was involved in Longmont Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, a bowling team, sewing and crafting.
After her husband retired they moved to Crawford. She was a member of the Crawford Mesa Community Club, Black Canyon CattleWomen, Crawford United Methodist Church and the UMW Women. She volunteered in the church thrift shop and was known for the cinnamon rolls she made every Saturday.
She is survived by her husband, John Wakefield of Crawford; two daughters, Kristine (Jeff) Coniway of Mead and Pauline Hoekstra of Westminster; son, Rohde (Karre) Wakefield of Westminster; two brothers, Norman (Sharon) Lubben of Englewood and Daniel (Theresa) Luben of Westminster; seven grandchildren, Shawn and Patrick Coniway, Zachary (Rachel) Hoekstra, Kaitlin Hoekstra, and Breanna, Grant and Faith Wakefield.
A funeral was held Dec. 31 at Crawford Community United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Crawford.
