HHS girls get 5th relay

Ever since the Colorado High School Activities Association did away with regional meets and began qualifying athletes for state track and field based on the top 18 times, heights and distances, the Cedaredge Bruin Invitational has marked the last chance to qualify for state.

On Saturday the Hotchkiss girls track team made good use of the opportunity at Cedaredge. Hotchkiss was already securely qualified for state in the four sprint relays. In their second 4x800m relay race of the season, Yasmine Gaub, Morgan Miller, Margaret Parsons and Jordan Tamayo debuted on the MaxPreps Top 18 list at No. 13 with a meet-winning time of 10 minutes, 54.79 seconds.

Hotchkiss also posted season-best times in two other relays. Fatima Rodriquez, Elsie Vasquez, Shay Glaser and Kaiya Firor placed fourth in the 4x200m relay in a season-best 1:51.97; and in the 4x400m relay, Parsons, Vasquez, Tamayo and Firor placed fourth in a season-best 4:23.29.

In the 4x100m relay, Joli Derby, Ravyn Galbreath, Kaite Powers and Kimberly Jurado placed sixth. In individual events, Fatima Rodriguez placed fourth in the 100m dash, and Yasmine Gaub placed sixth.
