HHS girls lose final scheduled contest

Meeker High School's girls' basketball team dealt Hotchkiss a loss, 55-35, last Friday in Meeker. The Cowboys doubled Hotchkiss' score, 18-9, in the game's first eight minutes.

A 17-7 second quarter gave the Cowboys a commanding 35-16 halftime lead.

Hotchkiss was two points better than the Cowboys in third-period play but still trailed, 41-24, with one quarter left in the game.

Meeker made it a 20-point difference, 55-35, with a 14-11 edge in fourth-quarter play.

Halie Ahrens scored 17 points and Megan Shelton another 12 to lead Meeker's offense.

Hotchkiss currently resides in the cellar of 2A WSL District 5 league standings. At 2-8 and 3-14, the Bulldogs had to travel to Hayden (2-8 and 5-12) on Monday, Feb. 22, to complete the bracket for this weekend's semifinal and championship rounds being held in De Beque.
