For nearly two decades, the Town of Cedaredge historical preservation board has been identifying, researching, and recommending vintage town sites for designation as historic properties. Over the years, two dozen properties have been approved by the town trustees and, by the time the preservation board meets this September, each of those historic buildings will be displaying a distinctive commemorative plaque.
The plaques are visible manifestations of the preservation board's work. What is less apparent is the dedicated service performed behind the scenes by board members. At present, the board consists of five members: Ronn Brewer, Mike Mills, Sharon Pierce, LaDonna Gunn and Al Smith.
Brewer and Mills plan to retire from the board this autumn and they are hoping that other local citizens will step forward to take their places. Brewer has served on the board for 10 years and he invites citizens interested in joining the board to contact the Cedaredge Town Hall or any board member. Historical preservation representatives will also be on hand during the July 14 Celebrate Cedaredge event in town park. Anyone interested in town history, and especially those considering joining the board, are encouraged to stop by the board's community fair booth from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to learn more.
