Lee Marts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3571 and its Auxiliary recently honored the hometown heroes of the Delta area with an awards dinner to celebrate Loyalty Day. Honored were city, county, and state law enforcement personnel, EMTs, search and rescue personnel, and members of the Delta Volunteer Fire Department -- those men and women who work diligently to protect life and property in the area, sometimes at great risk to themselves. Individual heroes were named and honored, and the entire Delta Fire Department was honored as a team.
During the same awards dinner, the winners of the auxiliary-sponsored patriotic art competition were also honored. Two of the top four attend the Vision Charter Academy and the other two are Delta High School students. The first place winner, Makenzie Hill, advanced to state VFW competition, where she placed sixth.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
