On April 8, staff from Horizons Care Center in Eckert gathered to recognize and honor the many volunteers who dedicate time to enriching the lives of residents at the care center. Staff put together a fun luncheon and awards ceremony for the organization's nearly 70 volunteers.

"We enjoy giving back to you guys, because you have given to us all year long," said Kathy Meehan, the activity assistant at Horizons. She explained that staff and volunteers at Horizons strive to follow a set of guidelines that dictate how they treat everyone who comes through the doors. The organization aims to reach and uplift all people and bring them to the knowledge and active service of God, she said. "There is godly character presented through each one of you," she said. "You all have been such a positive influence for our residents. They are filled with joy when you come in."

The following individuals, churches and groups were honored: Marivance Thompson, Mary Boulay, Scott Kolb, Bill Jackson, Sky Fairlamb, Jim Quenzer, Raymon Irizzary, Carol Mog, Laura Peck and Friends, Dr. Mary Kleinsorge, West Rockies Mennonite Church, Phil Ellsworth, Phyllis Applewhite, Sunnyside Christian Band, All Saints Lutheran, Cedaredge Assembly of God, Cedaredge United Methodist Church, Cowboy of the Cross Church, Delta Assembly of God, Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church, Jesus Life & Ministry - Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Holiness Chapel - Jesus Loves Me Kids, VFW & VFW Women's Auxiliary and American Legion/Cedaredge, Don Jenkins, Louis and Candi Brown, Community Options, Cedaredge Clowns (Vernette Mackley, Gerry Grosshans, Lois Sand, Paul Ash, Carol Lamm, Midge Hagin, Diane Grundt, Jack Eichorn, Ginny Stohler and Nancy Carlson), David Blanchette, Don Lightfoot, Harry and Ruth White, Robin Hanifen, Lillian Pickard, Shirley Myers, Rayna Stout (and her dogs!), Mari-Emilie Sweigart and Brian Durkee.

Sarah Cuthbert, the life enrichment director for Horizons, explained that volunteers lead Bible studies, call bingo, visit with residents, and provide entertainment. Other volunteers spruce up the center's garden, bring library books, take residents shopping, and a group of clowns visits once a month for birthday celebrations. "We want to thank all of our volunteers," Cuthbert said. "We appreciate all they do for our residents and thank them for their dedication."
