The Hotchkiss girls are 7-6 overall and 3-3 in the 2A/1A Western Slope conference following a home win Friday over Hayden and a loss Saturday to Soroco.

In their 37-27 win over Hayden (3-10, 1-5), Carson Collins led in scoring with 15 points. Kaiya Firor scored nine, and Elsie Vasquez three.

With the varsity starters in for most of the first three quarters and Hotchkiss holding a 24-12 lead heading into the fourth quarter, coach Haillie Taylor put the five JV players on the court. While the JV players were outscored, 18-8, for having played an entire JV game earlier in the day, "They did well," said Taylor.

In the fourth quarter, Hayden head coach Michele Eilkie was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct after making a comment to officials following a foul called against one of her players.

After being charged with a technical, Eilkie again commented to officials, resulting in a second technical and the coach's ejection from the game.

The original foul and two technical fouls called on Eilkie allowed Hotchkiss to shoot six consecutive free throws.

Under the CHSAA rules, coaches ejected from a game "shall be suspended from coaching for the next contest at that level, or any other level." In the event of coach ejection, the CHSAA does not accept appeals or inquiries.

On Saturday the Bulldogs played to a 53-42 conference loss to Soroco. With an 11-3 overall, 7-0 conference record, the Rams are in first place in WSL standings.

Hotchkiss will host Meeker at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Cowboys are currently 9-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
