Hotchkiss starts cross country year in Basalt

Hotchkiss High School was one of 15 teams entered (boys and girls) in the Basalt Invitational Cross Country Meet. Bulldog boys placed sixth with 182 points and the girls failed to get a team score with just two runners participating.
Sam Rodriguez was the first Bulldogs boy to cross the finish line in a time of 18.31 and finished 16th out of 112 runners. Gabe Rodriguez was nearly a minute behind with his time of 19:06 and placed 28th.
Zack Allen was Hotchkiss' third finisher and placed 39th while Nick Jung crossed the finish line for 66th place and JD Miller was 98th.
In the girls' race, Sarah Wagler of Rifle had the top finish in a time of 19:50. Glenwood Springs won the team race with 36 points.
Kayia Firor earned 10th place and was the first Hotchkiss runner to finish the race with a time of 22:10.
The next Bulldogs runner to finish the race was Hannah Hatheway in 39th place.
