By Hank Lohmeyer

County commissioner Bruce Hovde was appointed by his BoCC colleagues to serve as commission chairman for 2016.

The designation took place during the board's annual reorganization meeting Monday, Jan. 4.

Hovde, term-limited, is serving his second and final term in a tenure of eight years as commissioner representing District #2.

Commissioner Doug Atchley was designated to serve as vice chairman this year.

During the reorganization session, the commissioners authorized themselves and others to serve as county representatives to more than three dozen committees and organizations that deal with issues of interest to county government and its citizens.

In other business at the BoCC's first meeting of 2016, the commissioners dealt with the following matters:

• Two jail reports were reviewed. The report for the week prior to Monday, Dec. 28, logged a detention facility count of 41 and a work release facility count of eight, for a total of 49.

The jail census for the week prior to Jan. 4 showed 47 in detention, and 10 in work release, for a total of 57.

• Commissioners approved county payment warrants totalling $435,755 from the general fund and other county monies for the period Dec. 5 through Dec. 18.

• Commissioners learned that the county's submission for the extended comment period on the North Fork Coal Mining Exemption to the Colorado Roadless Rule is being developed now. The comment period has been extended to Jan. 15.

• Commissioners designated the Delta County Independent as the official newspaper for carrying legal notices.

• The BoCC approved a $20,000 expenditure of county money along with a $20,000 grant from the state and Department of Homeland Security to create and outfit an emergency operations office at Delta County Memorial Hospital.

• The commissioners designated the official site for posting public notices as the bulletin board by the administration office in the courthouse "and/or the county website." Official emergency radio stations are KVNF and KUBC.
