In thankful acknowledgement of the DCSRC

Dear Editor:

As recipients of many of the benefits offered by the Delta County Senior Resource Council, we would like to thankfully acknowledge this organization, as well as its senior coordinator, Leah Lewis.

A great deal of effort, hard work and sincere commitment go into the organizing of the annual events that are made available to the senior citizens of Delta County.

Such events include the Senior Expo held each fall at Bill Heddles. Seniors are given the opportunity to explore the myriad of resources provided by local businesses, organizations and professionals within the community. Seminars, exercise classes, guest speakers, a free lunch and numerous prizes are all part of this very informative and enjoyable event.

Another highly special event sponsored by the Senior Resource Council is the "senior" program for those in the 55+ category which occurs in the spring. The prom is held at Delta High School on the same afternoon that the high school seniors have their evening prom event.

The afternoon is filled with great music provided by a local disc jockey, dancing, picture taking, an array of delicious foods, and fun for all. At the conclusion of the festivities, a prom king and queen are announced and crowned. Having been chosen king and queen at the 2015 prom, we can say firsthand that you get treated like royalty.

As part of being crowned, we were presented with a gift card to Daveto's Restaurant, to which we were escorted in a lovely limousine provided by and driven personally by Shirley Koch and her associate, Janine Bush of Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors of Montrose. We enjoyed the limousine ride very much, but the best part of the ride was getting to know and visit with Shirley and Janine. These two amazingly generous and thoughtful ladies actually returned to our home around Christmas time and drove us, along with four of our friends, all around Delta, Eckert and Cedaredge so that we could all enjoy the beautiful house and lawn decorations on display.

When asked why Sunset Mesa is so willing to provide its limousine and service like it has, we were told that the owners just enjoy giving back to the community. How blessed we are to be part of such a caring and benevolent group of business proprietors.

We wish to conclude with a heartfelt thank you to Delta County Senior Resource Council, Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors, Daveto's Restaurant, Leah Lewis, Shirley Koch and last, but not least, Janine Bush.
