Carol Clawson and Tell did their best to make these yearling ewes follow the course at the 10th annual Hotchkiss Sheep Camp Stock Dog Trials over the weekend. Gordon Hebenstreit, president and general manager of the stock dog trials said, “We feel it was a very successful competition … It was a real challenge for the dogs.” Vice president Cheryl Hebenstreit noted, “The sheep were a little tough this year.” And that’s how the competitors like it.It had rained in Hotchkiss all week long. Not a good sign for the big outdoor events scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

City explains tree removal

The City of Delta has removed trees on West 5th Street due to tree roots lifting sidewalks. The city crews will be replacing the sidewalks during the City of Delta's concrete replacement program.

Gymkhana series begins May 29

Members of the Surface Creek Saddle Club met April 29 to finalize the schedule for the club's annual summer gymkhana series. Each gymkhana will include a barrel race, pole bending and flag race, and each night there will be a unique fun race.

One injured in motorcycle crash

A motorcycle crash on Trap Club Road north of Delta Sunday afternoon seriously injured one rider. Alicia Schoborg, 48, of Cory and a male companion on a separate motorcycle were reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when Schoborg failed to negotiate a turn and went airborne.

Bypass contingency fund exhausted

Change orders for Confluence Drive "exhaust and exceed" the contingency fund allocated for the $28.3 million project, city manager Justin Clifton announced at last week's council meeting.

The city set aside $1.1 million, or 5% of the project cost, for contingencies.
