When Sue Martin of Hotchkiss returned to her home on J80 Road the morning of Thursday, Sept. 20, she found herself locked out of her house, although she hadn't locked the door when she left. Her dog, normally left outside, was nowhere to be found.
After breaking in, she discovered a man sleeping in the basement of her home. Thomas Fleak, 45, of Pryor, Okla., was reportedly wearing her husband's clothes. When he was confronted by Martin, he put his own clothes back on and went upstairs to wait while she called 911.
Hotchkiss Marshal Dan Miller and the Delta County Sheriff's Office both responded to her call. They discovered that Fleak had helped himself to wine, food and medications in the home. Fleak claimed he didn't know where he was and that he must have been sleepwalking. He was transported to Delta County Memorial Hospital to be checked out, then jailed on charges of second degree burglary with the intent to commit a crime of theft.
According to Marshal Miller, the man had slept in a camper trailer on the property. He allegedly went into the house because he was cold, taking the dog with him and locking it in a bedroom.
"Although this situation turned out well, I recommend leaving home and calling 911 from a different location," Sheriff McKee said.blog comments powered by Disqus
