The county commissioners heard a report on Dec. 3 of increasing cost efficiency in the county elections operations.

County clerk and recorder Ann Eddins reported that her office conducted five municipal elections, countywide special district elections, and primary and general elections in 2012 at lower cost than fewer elections in 2008.

The bill for elections work this year was $223,644. By contrast, in 2008 the department conducted only three municipal elections and a primary and general election at a cost of $261.677.

The county election staff was three full-time equivalent in 2008, and two full-time equivalent in 2012.

• Following an executive session, the commissioners directed the county attorney to research the consequences of Amendment 64's approval by voters and to present options for county responses. Amendment 64 essentially legalizes the use of marijuana on the state level, though the substance remains illegal under federal law.

• The BoCC approved purchase of 63, 50-watt VHF radios for the county road and bridge department. The low bid for the devices came from Cedaredge Communications for $18,529. There is an additional $10 per unit for shipping, handling and programming.
