Photo submitted Solemn remembrance On Dec. 7, a calm and peaceful morning just like a morning 71 years ago, the national POW/MIA flag hangs serenely over a table of seven wreaths in Confluence Park. On Dec. 7, 1941, that morning calm was shattered by the surprise assault on the United States Navy at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii — an act that plunged the United States into World War II. On Dec. 7, 2012, the seven wreaths were tossed into the Gunnison River, part of a solemn memorial ceremony conducted by the members of Lee Marts VFW Post 3571 and its Ladies Auxiliary of Delta, assisted by an honor guard of JROTC cadets.
