On March 8, Delta County sheriff's deputies arrested Kenneth Gallob, 29, after he threatened a sheriff's deputy responding to a domestic incident at the Gallob home near Hotchkiss.

The incident took place March 3, but due to the high potential of a violent confrontation, the decision was made to de-escalate the situation and contact Gallob at a later date.

He was arrested at his place of employment and taken to the Delta County Jail where his bond was set at $60,000.

Delta County Undersheriff Mark Taylor reports Deputy Norman Dishaw was dispatched to the Gallob home on 3100 Road after a 911 hangup call.

Upon his arrival, Deputy Dishaw was allegedly confronted by Gallob, who stated he was armed, "locked and loaded," and that Deputy Dishaw had 30 seconds to get off his property.

The deputy explained he was responding to a 911 hangup call. Gallob allegedly continued to threaten Deputy Dishaw. The deputy could see that Gallob did in fact have a long-barreled gun at his side and he felt Gallob was in the state of mind to potentially use it.

Undersheriff Taylor said Deputy Dishaw was able to get to his patrol vehicle and back out of the area before Gallob followed through with his threats. The Delta County Communication Center made phone contact with Gallob and a female who stated she was Twila Gallob. Mrs. Gallob stated she dialed 911 because of an argument she and Mr. Gallob were having but everything was okay at the present time. Gallob got on the phone and continued threatening law enforcement by telling dispatch, "Do not send the officers to my house. You will be sending them to a dangerous situation and I am prepared to defend my property and myself."

Due to the high potential of a violent confrontation, the decision was made to de-escalate the situation and attempt to contact him at a later time.

Gallob is charged with menacing, a Class 5 felony; first degree assault on a peace officer, a Class 3 felony; and obstructing a peace officer, a Class 2 misdemeanor.

Undersheriff Taylor commented, "I am always concerned when our deputies are performing their duties by responding to and checking on a potential domestic situation, a 911 hangup call and they are confronted by a violent unprovoked attack from an out-of-control individual who puts our deputies, himself and his entire family in jeopardy by approaching a deputy with a gun in his hand and threatening to shoot.

"I'm thankful the deputy had the ability to retreat and handle the situation when and where an arrest could be made without incident."
