The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has completed its investigation into a physical altercation involving Delta Police officers that took place in February. The encounter in the Walmart parking lot resulted in injuries to a civilian.
After reviewing the results of the CBI investigation, district attorney Dan Hotsenpiller determined "the evidence is insufficient to prove beyond a reasonable doubt" that the officers committed any crime.
Four officers were involved in the incident — Steven Furstenfeld, Ryan Artaz, Kent Eddy and Jesse Stanford.
In a letter addressed to the four men, Hotsenpiller notes the officers "were properly responding to a public safety concern and were confronted with circumstances that required police and emergency medical response. Peace officers are authorized and justified in using physical force pursuant to Colorado law."
The officers were removed from administrative leave April 29. The next step, said Chief Robert Thomas, is a professional standards investigation that will be conducted by another agency within the 7th Judicial District.
Charges were filed with the DA's office against the two juveniles involved in the incident.blog comments powered by Disqus
