Shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, June 13, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near mile marker 66. The red GMC sport utility vehicle was occupied by William Potter, 76, and Joan Potter, 71, of Delta.
The vehicle, driven by Joan Potter, was travelling east on Highway 50 when it struck the left side guardrail then rolled over multiple times coming to rest on its wheels on the right shoulder of the highway. Both occupants sustained moderate to serious injuries and were transported to Delta County Memorial Hospital. A short time later, Joan Potter was transferred to St. Mary's Hospital.
Eastbound Highway 50 was closed while the accident was cleaned up. The highway was re-opened by 7:20 p.m. The cause of the accident is unknown and remains under investigation. The Delta Police Department would like to thank the Delta County Ambulance District, Delta Volunteer Fire Department, Colorado Department of Transportation and Colorado State Patrol for their assistance.
