Three additional human cases of West Nile Virus were diagnosed in Delta County residents in the last week, the Delta County Department of Health and Human Services reports. This brings the 2013 Delta County total to six cases.
All three cases were reported in the North Fork Valley, and all are recovering from uncomplicated fever. The cases involve a female, age 20-29; a male, age 70-79; and a female, age 40-49.
"With the recent rains, we are asking residents to be especially vigilant in using mosquito repellent and draining any standing water. The prime West Nile Virus transmission season will last at least another month before it begins to taper off as the mosquitoes prepare to winter over," said Delta County public health director Bonnie Koehler.
The health department will continue to do active surveillance on cases involving humans and horses, and collect mosquito samples through the month of August to determine the prevalence of the virus within the county.
"Your continued help is appreciated," Koehler said.blog comments powered by Disqus
