Interagency resources from the U.S. Forest Service and BLM are suppressing the Franks Bench Fire located three miles south of Uranium Road (FSR 404) and approximately five miles south and west of the Divide Forks Campground and ATV Complex. The fire was detected Aug. 16 and was determined to be caused by lightning from a storm which occurred 5-6 days earlier.
When initially detected, the fire was approximately 30 acres in size; as of Aug. 18, it had grown to 35 acres. The fire is burning in remote and rugged terrain. Firefighters are working to suppress the fire but, due to the hazardous terrain, suppression and containment will occur in areas which can be safely accessed by firefighters. No structures are threatened. There are no road or trail closures at this time but the Forest Service is urging the public to avoid the area affected by the fire. This includes trails in the Blue Creek Park area.
