A woman riding a motorized scooter was struck crossing 4th Street Saturday at about 1:30 p.m. Tina Loy, 57, suffered a leg injury when she was pinned beneath the wheels of a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer driven by Vonell Kinderknecht. Officer Rdean Young of the Delta Police Department reports Kinderknecht was westbound on 4th Street preparing to make a right turn onto Main Street. Kinderknecht told investigators she looked carefully before attempting to make the right turn on a red light, but the scooter was so low it was out of her line of sight. Loy was southbound in the crosswalk and was hit on the left side, causing the scooter to tip over. Delta firefighters were able to lift the vehicle and free Loy and the scooter. Loy was transported to Delta County Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital . Kinderknecht was charged with careless driving.
