Hiker helicoptered

An Evergreen man who suffered chest pains about halfway down the Ute Trail was airlifted from a clear area near the trail last Friday. He was flown to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction for medical treatment and at last report was doing well, Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee says.

Bruce Ifft, 64, was headed into the Gunnison Gorge for fishing with a companion when he began to experience discomfort. The companion hiked out of the gorge and contacted dispatch at about 1:30 p.m. Sheriff's deputies and ambulance personnel also responded.
