The pilot killed in a fiery plane crash north of Cedaredge Tuesday, Nov. 19, has been identified as Tari Taricco, 62, a resident of California. Identification was confirmed yesterday by Delta County coroner Kevin Lucy.
Shortly after 6 p.m. Nov. 19, a resident of Surface Creek Road above Cedaredge notified dispatch a small plane had crashed in his back yard and was fully engulfed in flames. There was little anyone could do to save the pilot, who was the only occupant of the plane, it was later determined.
The plane was headed from California to Aspen. Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee reports icing on the wing may have been an issue. The pilot was flying north when he swerved back around to the south, perhaps in search of a place to land.
The accident is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.blog comments powered by Disqus
