With cold winter weather settling into the valley, the City of Delta and Hamon Contractors are evaluating how much longer they’ll be able to continue work on Confluence Drive, the city’s alternate truck route. Public works director Jim Hatheway reports most of the structural work has been completed, as well as the north end of the road layout from 5th to Palmer. If the weather cooperates, the first layer of asphalt should be in place before Christmas. In addition, Hatheway hopes to have Gunnison River Drive open for full business access by the end of the year. The final completion date is tied to the exchange agreement with Union Pacific, which affects the south end of the project to the tie-in with Highway 50.
