The Delta County Sheriff's Office reports Eddie White, 67, shot his 81-year-old wife, then took his own life Dec. 8. The couple lived on Hunsicker Avenue in Eckert; their bodies were found by a nephew.
Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee says White did not leave a note, but he may have been attempting to relieve his wife's suffering. She had a serious physical impairment, the sheriff said.
A missing persons report filed Dec. 12 also led to the discovery of a suicide victim. Eric Smirnow, 67, of Paonia had asked a friend to look after his cats in early November. After a month had passed and he had not returned home, the friend filed a missing persons report with the Delta County Sheriff's Office. When Smirnow's pickup was spotted near the Bridgeport turnoff, sheriff's deputies and BLM rangers responded to the area. They found Smirnow near his vehicle, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sheriff McKee said health issues may have been a motivating factor.
A third suicide was reported on Cedar Mesa Dec. 15, the sheriff reported. The victim was a 55-year-old man who died of carbon monoxide poisoning.blog comments powered by Disqus
