Delta County Memorial Hospital employees opened their hearts and wallets this year and got into the holiday spirit by contributing 3,150 pounds, or nearly 1.75 tons of food, to food banks in Delta, Cedaredge and Hotchkiss. A competition between hospital departments brought enthusiasm and competitiveness into the mix.
Winner of the traveling trophy at DCMH is "Chowhounds," composed of human resources, dietary and radiology departments, with an impressive 677.5 pounds of canned and dry food contributed.
Second place went to the Garbonzo Boys with 618.2 pounds of food. This group was composed of Colorow Family Medical Clinic in Olathe, pediatric clinic, surgery, plant operations and maintenance departments. Third place with 507.8 pounds of food contributed was won by Cantributors, covering administration, education/PR, medical records, housekeeping/laundry and accounting departments at the hospital. A total of nine teams with names like the Happy Elves and Chow Wows competed until the weigh-in at 2 p.m. Dec. 16 in the hospital cafeteria.
Other departments were: Happy Elves, fourth place with 307.6 pounds of food; Sticking to Your Ribs, fifth place with 302 pounds; Scan Dolls, sixth place with 251.4 pounds; CAN Do's, seventh place with 211.3 pounds; The Movers + Shakers, eighth place with 163.3 pounds; and Chow Wows, ninth place with 106.3 pounds.
Toys for Tots also received three overflowing boxes full of new, unwrapped toys which filled up a pickup, thanks to the generosity of the hospital employees.The Delta County Ambulance crew also got in the holiday spirit and purchased a BMX bicycle that some disadvantaged child will cherish for years to come. Delta High School students led by student body president Alicia Abeyta joined the fun contributing toys and a Huffy Rock-it bike with training wheels for the hospital's Toys for Tots campaign.blog comments powered by Disqus
